A Contest of Scarecrows

That time of year our feathered friends fear – the Millfield Allotments Scarecrow Competition – saw some particularly terrifying entries this season. Even before judging got underway, the skies filled with traumatised corvids – not to mention startled starlings, petrified pigeons and disconcerted doves – fleeing East Faversham as fast as their wings could carry them. It was like Alfred Hitchcock's The Birds in reverse. Here's a selection of the best, for your viewing pleasure – just don't show your pet budgie...
